I finally had a really good idea for a track this morning. I doubt I'll get it done in time, though

Have a go...I have siad end of March but let me know an idea of when you could get it done. It looks like this is going to be well worth an short run digi pak pressing...so putting together artwork / 'mastering' everything and all that will take time...

Do you play just guitar or bass too BTW?

Have been focusing on guitar more over the last few years, but I still have the bass.

My problem is, beyond knowing how to pluck a few strings, everything else confuses the hell out of me. I don't know how to record anything, put anything together... so far I've sampled two loops that I want to use, but that's it. One needs to be time-stretched to match the other, and the other needs some filtering. But, don't know how or what with! Any suggestions?

What software are you using to put the track together?

In cubase - if you want to time stretch an imported loop - you right click on the 'selection' tool and go to the 'timestretch selection' option. So when you drag it out it stretches it. Probably a similar option on most software. As for filtering - use the on board eq for that channel in your mixer or use an eq or filter as an insert effect on the track in question.

So far I've only been mucking around in Garageband, but I couldn't figure out how to do its time-stretching at all. I've asked a mate of mine who's an engineer if he can offer any assistance, I'll see what advice he has to offer.

What software has everyone else been using?

Well good news, my mate has offered to help me out with the recording, going around to his place for several nights over the next month to get it done in time! Fingers crossed, I should have my cover of Home ready by the deadline!
