92 Degrees is done, and up at Soundcloud if anyone wants to hear it.

My usual singer Lacheln never could learn the words whenever we recorded so I did them myself. She's a wonderful singer but there's a reason why my original tunes with her only have a couple phrases for lyrics!

I sang, played guitar and keyboards, did the sequencer arps, pianos and bass on my phone using the "Pocketband" app, and in true PWEI fashion used pirated rhythm loops for all drums/ percussion. It was mixed using Cool Edit Pro.

Anyone listening will notice I dropped a section of lyrics, and it's because I figured my version had more impact when it was much shorter, got a bit dull having two bridges (the "birth/ death/ romance" part and "for all the ones who hate me" part). In no way do I think any of the PWEI versions are dull this way, it's a perfect song in both the VMNP version and 3rd degree version. But for my tracks, 3.5 minutes is about my tolerance for my own loops!

Wow. So, I am way late to this ... but it looks like it's still ongoing.

I'm super impressed with the "Friends" cover, even though it's ineligible. Really heavy mix; the instrumentation sounds great, but the vocals could be bumped up, I think. I wish I had the chops to polish a song that well, though.

So, if I wanted to cover "Dust Me Down" off the Wild and Wandering EP, would that count?

I guess Dust me Down would be elligible. It's on the PWEI re-issues!

Get cracking!

I've returned to doing some work on my U.B.L.U.D. cover but I think it's a bit pants really, so I had a late change of heart and tried to do Babylon which seems to be coming together better. No-one's doing that one are they?
Here to sing, by request, here we bring...

Babylon is still up for grabs but to be honest, more than one cover of a tune is fine...

My PC is now refusing to play ball with cubase even after rendering a lot of tracks...now having to work on bits in new projects and import them into the main mix...might need to bounce it down a bit really...never done that! It's not too crap though so worth finishing. Should be done this week.

Ok thanks to everyone who has submitted tracks so far. Great stuff all round as well.

We currently have 25 mins of material including my 6 min track and it would be good if we could try to round up as much stuff as possible during Feb.

I'm going to start another thread about submission info for the sleeve notes too in a bit.

Cheers

Hello, fellow Poppies. I'm suffering from a case of tin ear, at the moment. That's the problem with being a descendant of tone-deaf people.

Working on "Dust Me Down" ... which seems to be around 67.5 BPM

I took out my bass and divined the bass riff to be: | D D A A D A D D | C C G G C G C C | (that's a mixture of 8ths and 16th notes, with the pipes connoting the two full measures I mean to represent)

From there, I worked out -- using a MIDI ocarina: | D ... E F E | D ... E F E | D ... E F E | C ... E F E | (four measures, here)

But I'm lost when the ocarina goes into its bit during the "Scarlet lights, comfort and trust ..." lyric and into the chorus.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for which instruments are doing what, in this song (aside from bass and guitar and drums, of course; I've got those pat), I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

What's a midi ocarina? I worked mine out by just playing over the top of sections until it sounded right. Which is dangerous as I am also tone deaf. Might be wise to ask Rich via FB - or Adam here? I think they have been pretty helpful with this stuff in the past. Clint only replies if your a fit girl.
