Something to Read?

Hello
Recommend a book?

I had to go on steroids last year (off now not so angry!) as my eyes were playing up again. Couldn't sleep so started to get depressing books to calm me down. Started with the Road -which is *really* depressing.

This got me into apocalyptic themed books. I've stuck with zombie ones. So far I've really enjoyed
world war z
the passage (northern lights-y)
on the third day
the angels are the reapers (or the other way round)
just finished day by day Armaggedon
and started another one today which I've forgotten the name of but there's zombies in it told by a police officer (Eddie??).

Any other suggestions?

Jas

I thought it was awesome , it may be what you are looking for.......no zombies tho.
edit - this book kinda mirrors whats going on in London at the minute..

I've just finished the MEG series by Steve Alten. The first book is great, the others are not bad but focus a lot more on the psychodrama between a few main characters. Also, I always suggest reading ANOTHER BULLSHIT NIGHT IN SUCK CITY to anyone who hasn't read it.

I've read a few of that genre too.

I am Legend by Richard Matheson is an obvious one except they are vampires

Breeding Ground by Sarah Pinborough is really creepy

One by Conrad Williams is set in England and is very enjoyable

Killing Moon by Rod Glenn is set up north but is a bit pulpy

Day by Day Apocalypse is great, did you know that a sequel is out and a 3rd on the way

You would also probably enjoy the AfterBlight Chronciles

No zombies but good post apocalypse reads

Survivors by Terry Nation

There Falls No Shadow by David Crossley - is brilliant, the author really knows his survival stuff

I spied a Pale Horse by Mark Timlin

Death of Grass by John Cristopher

An early one but a real gem is Earth Abides by George R Stewart - set in America, written in 1949

Plague Year by Jeff Carlson

Y the Last Man is a comic book that you can collect in Graphic Novels and is a good fun

is a good list

Gread thread.

I've been reading non-fiction for a while now. Couple of magician biographies & an Anti Fascist Action book. Currently reading a book about an English fan's experiences of supporting Verona for a season in north Italy.

It's a more realistic version than Mad Max, though.

awesome thread, but sadly am not into zombies and/or vampires so when Jas but stand outs for me I Am Legend (basically about the limits of society and what is considered social or anti-social, an amazing book in its layers regarding society and the rights to prey on others just because their rules are different) and The Road

i'm going through the Making of The Empire Strikes Back different kind of apocalypse ;)

and a few books one ethics!
