Poppies Song Thats Improved With Age

Postby Coops » Tue Oct 18, 2011 5:43 pm

Inspired by the 'Crappest Song' thread which PWEI track did you just not 'get' Back In The Day but now couldnt be without?

Im here today to defend the album version of 'Babylon'. Back then, the only time I listened to it in its entirety was when I could be arsed/too pissed to get up and turn it off. Somehow though, its gotten under my skin and now its a real favourite.

Secondly, and its also a final track which suggests something about my attention span back then, I couldnt see what the fuss about Bulletproof was. In my defence the On U remixes ruined how I felt about this song but, as before, I used to turn it off. It seemed a shit way of ending a fantastic album, couldnt they have hidden it half way? Now, whenever the trusty ipod shuffle picks this for me its volume full blast, great drumming and everybody is appy!!

Anybody else like something now they didnt then?

Chaos & Mayhem. No shit. When I first heard the preview, I kept playing it because I couldn't believe a band so unique could make a song that sound so... dull and ordinary.

Then the video game out, and I could listen to it full, and for some reason I kept getting back to it - and now I really, really enjoy it. Its production is clumsy and the vocals are a bit anemic but, I love it, I love its spirit and the vibe it gives.

"Familus Horribilus" too. When I first heard, it sounded like one of the worst rapping over one of the lamest beats ever, as if they tossed it and said "Okay, rap song=check!". But when I reviewed the album and listened to it closely I noticed the rapping is not so bad and it's actually darn cool, especially that screech that comes midway.

Never used to like Cape Connection.

Also hated Wasted at first and it's now becoming a favourite.

Not Now James, We're Busy. I hated the studio version. Then i heard the live 1990 version, and made me realise how that was 10 times better.
88 Seconds also. Hate the studio version. The One on wierds bar is ace.

Axe of Men - was ace, and gets acer every time I hear it.

Hit The Hi-Tec Groove used to genuinely set my teeth on edge.

I've gotten used to it, but it's still not a favourite.

Cape Connection. Back in my teenage years I always skipped this when listening to DDMA - I liked the ambient intro but thought the guitar was too heavy & the synthy drums sounded tacky. The Golden Claw remix was amazing however...

Fast forward to now, given DDMA a lot more spins & whilst the drum sound still doesn't sit right I've learned to love the melody. Then last night when the band tore into it with the addition of Jason's drumming it finally clicked and I love that song :)

Unusual choice but I think Lived in Splendour Died in Chaos has stood the test of time well. Especially compared to some of the other stuff on the CFS which hasn't aged well. I mean Cicciolina just sounds like a bad 80's house tune. :?
