New band members

From what I’ve heard (and this is only from reading around online over the past year, not fact-checked) the Cherry Red reissues and Graham’s new band & album are two entirely separate and unrelated things. Two different record labels, two different release schedules, two different teams behind them and even two different ex-members of PWEI pushing them forward. Adam’s been the main Poppies force behind the reissues.

My opinion on the new PWEI? I hope they’re good fun to watch live. I hope the new album is a belter. I don’t have much confidence, but I’m ready to be surprised.

My lack of confidence is down to finding Vile Evils a bit rubbish. Especially live … but I hope this works out better.

The PWEI Reformation gigs were perfect. They couldn’t be topped. This is something different and I don’t expect it to match up. Doesn’t mean it won’t be fun in it’s own way though.

But then all the other members were asked more than once to reform...it's murky stuff no doubt. I guess if they have no interest in PWEI anymore then they cannot kick up too much of a fuss? Unless they wantto bock the use of the name for some reason?

Maybe they should : it isn't PWEI. Clints comments on Twitter include "What gig in Glasgow?" and "I'm not involved in any PWEI shows."

It's not as if Fuzz, and Adam, haven't shown willing to perform PWEI songs recently - as they were in VE. If VE - which is 3/3rds made of ex-PWEI members - isn't PWEI, how come PWEI as-is, made of 1/5th PWEI, is PWEI? It isn't. It's not as if The Wonder Stuff and BRA are touring when PWEI are. It must be something more than that. Even calling the band something like PWEIv2.0 to make clear it isn't the old PWEI lineup would help. There will be some annoyed people in October when they realise they've been sold a pup.

The question then is "Is it valid to call it PWEI?"

The answer is "No."

It's the wrong name for the band. At the very least call it PWEIv2.0 so people are aware it is not Clint / Graham / Adam / Richard / Fuzz.

I get why people are skeptical. I am slightly. But I'd like to hear this band's new material and see them live.

two versions of bucks fizz ; lets look at this:

1996 lineup ; Clint - Adam - Rich - Fuzz - Buzzard
1997-2004 ; split.
2005 line up ; Clint - Adam - Rich - Fuzz - Graham
2005-2010 ; split.
PWEI 2011 ; Jason - Tim - Dave - Mary - Graham.

So, no one from the 1996 line up is in the 2011 v2.0 reboot.

With that, There could conceiveably be two seperate PWEI's touring, and I know which one I'd see.It's the one with the most number of original members. (ie 80%)

As it stands, the PWEI v2.0 is a new band, that Graham has put together, with zero input from the original band. It might as well be a solo album ; but Graham Crabb, the name, has zero commercial clout in the indiepop market. PWEI has lots. He's willing to throw away a 25 year reputation for his own glory.

With a lot of bands with only one original member remaining - look at the cure, The Mission etc. - its been a gradual change of one member leaves, they get someone else in, then another, and so forth whilst the band continues. To throw out everyone else and start again, isn't a evolutionary process. It's a diplomatic coup.

Whats next? One twitter user described it as beign like Bill Ward announcing tour dates for Black Sabbath, only with Jan Akkerman on guitar, Pino Palladino on bass, and Ian Anderson on vocals. You all know that isn't Sabbath.
