I went along to Sheffield too, really good gig just a shame it wasn't a bit busier, it was probably only about half/two thirds full. This is my fear for the new Poppies, that they may not attract enough gig-goers / album sales to make it worthwhile to continue.
It was great to see Gra and Mary on a big stage, having been stuck on tiny venues when playing with Vile Evils (in my experience anyway). I really hope the guys can get on some festival bills in the summer and generate a bit more interest there cos the live show was great and the new band deserve some success on their own merit. They could probably do with getting together on a tour with a younger (and currently bigger) band as a support to get themselves heard, even if it feels totally wrong to imagine the Poppies as a support band.
It does seem a different band, the humour has largely gone with more accent on the guitars/punkier side with the lack of the likes of Def Con One, XY&Z and Can You Dig It. I think this is probably for the best as it does help to draw a line under the 'old' band.
I even resisted buying one of the dodgy new shirts.
