I have the OG CD of This is This which is 'quiet' compared to todays CD's but sounds just dandy if you, yes, use your volume control. I have the Jap re-issue which is hot mastered. It does nit sound great and when you extract a track the wav file loos ike one big block...I do not like hot mastering or whatever thye call it these days, makes stuff sound nasty.

Flod is awesome...He didn't master them though. A mastering house full of boffins thinking 'what's this f**cking shit?' did.

The original Cure For Sanity was rushmastered I understand, with side one of the vinyl being cut and mastered before side two mixes were finalised : also, it is a LONG lp, on one vinyl disc and volume may have been adjusted to fit all on two sides of 12" vinyl.

Agreed, by far one of their best albums. In regards to the mastering, there are a number of techniques. My guess is that they mastered the mixed tracks, instead of mastering individual tracks to construct a final mastered mix. Just a theory, but I've heard the difference on other (non-PWEI) albums.

Is this why the track off that album that I put onto a compilation a couple of years back, was so much quieter than all the others?
