This site, slicingupeyeballs.com, has been doing a poll for the best albums of each year in the 80's.

I overlooked it for '88 with Box Frenzy... but they still made 83rd best album of the year.

Let's see if we can get This Is This closer to the top for '89.

Great list there though, 2 of my all time favourites in TITD & Paul's Boutique, hard to narrow down the other 8!

Aaargh, so many to choose from between PWEI, The Wonder Stuff, Jesus Jones, The Cult, The Cure, The Wedding Present and the Beasties. And New Order. And New Model Army. And Faith No More. And Mega City 4. And Nirvana before they went shit. And the Pixies.

I still expect the Stone Roses to piss it, though.

Stan Ridgeway? Wasnt he the guy who did that 'Camouflage' song? About that US soldier in Vietnam who got separated from his buddies and nearly bought it only to be saved by a mysterious huge G.I named Camouflage? Except when he got back to base it turned out, dah-dah-daaaah, that Camouflage had died the previous day?

Arrg... I wrote a Zine about 15 years ago that discussed this very topic and how 1989 was the pinnacle of Industrial Music. So many good albums that year, and as much as I would like to commit to the Poppies I have to admit that Skinny Puppy's RABIES is probably the most stand out of that year. Sorry, PWEI... Are we still cool?

Slint "TWEEZ" is another classic and highly underrated album.

It's probably because I got into PWEI years after I heard Rabies, The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste, Pretty Hate Machine... As great of an album as TITDTHISHTHIST! is, I was just late to the game.

Incredible, incredible album.

I think I own less than 10 of those albums so could probable vote for all the ones I own, but I think that might devalue it a bit.

3 feet High and Rising - De La Soul

Interestingly, the only one of those that I actually owned in 1989 was De La Soul. Not sure about including the Nirvana one as I've not listened to it since about 1994.
