PWEI Discography Song Discussion #1 - Pre-Box Frenzy/NFAF

Postby poppiestar » Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:36 am

In order to get through the rather massive list of things to do for the new discography, I've decided to break up the list of songs by era to (hopefully) make it easier to spot errors, omissions and double-ups, hopefully leaving me with a head of hair at the end of it all. I'll make a different post for each different era so we can keep the discussion as localised as possible.

So without further ado, here is the full list of tracks I can find from the pre-Box Frenzy era. If everybody could take a look and make any suggestions it would make my life much easier, not to mention helping out your Nation!

Titles in square brackets are alternative titles I've discovered. I've gone with how it's listed on its first release, so if a song title (e.g. Black Country Chainstore) changes on different releases, the first release is the correct one and the subsequent ones will be alternative titles. This is going to become really important soon when it comes to remixes...

Apple Tree (Wild And Wandering Demo)
B-B-B-Breakdown
Black Country Chainstore Massacre (Radio 1 Session)
Bubbles
Candydiosis
Demolition Girl (Radio 1 Session)

I haven't got access to my files where I am today so can't help in that respect, but as a suggestion for formatting: please don't collate tracks/releases alphabetically using the prefix article (eg. the/a/an) - it's considered bad practice. Using an example from this list: "The Devil Inside" would normally be entered in the list as either "Devil Inside, The", or kept as "The Devil Inside". The collated list should be sorted alphabetically (in the first case) or sorted alphabetically ignoring any prefix articles (in the second case), so in both cases the example would fall between "Demolition Girl" & "Dust Me Down".

I suspect some of the minor differences in track names (particularly where the demos/early versions are concerned on the recent reissues) are shortenings to fit into the allocated space on the artwork without having to rearrange much as well as some stylization (NFAF) - but then again the PWEI releases have historically been really bad for tracklisting. eg. is it "Get The Girl + Kill The Baddies"? or "Get The Girl! Kill The Baddies!" or... etc.

I'd suggest, unless the demo/early version has a completely different working name then the minor differences in naming should just go with the released versions convention. This also makes it much easier to group all variants of a song together.

eg.

Psychopath In My Soup (Early Version)
Theresapsychopath In My Soup [There's A Psychopath In My Soup]

becomes

There's A Psychopath In My Soup
There's A Psychopath In My Soup (Early Version)

(sorry, I have to read too many reports & data presentations at work :P)
