The previews have been great, guys.

What kind of software are you using to create beats/mix/track etc? I'm thinking about joining in with this but need some advice on what tools to use.

For simplicity I'd use Acid as it's fully functional and WaveLab is good for editing samples.

Back when I worked in studios I used Cubase and Logic but, to be honest, I can just as good results from Acid. You do need lots of VST instruments or a decent set of rackmount gear to do anything serious though!

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've been using Acid Pro for years but I've never really messed around with VST instruments so I'll have a look into those. I currently use Hammerhead to make beats but it's not the best software and I need to upgrade. Aside from that I can record guitar on Cubase and I have a MicroKorg laying around that I should use. My biggest problem is making beats...

I use an Android app called Pocketband for the sequencer bits. It also has a sampler but I didn't use that. Other useful tools for Android phones/ tablets are Chordbot (programmable piano chords), any number of free tuners or bpm counters.

I recoreded keyboards and guitar live and filled out the rest of the instruments with sample loops, half from the royalty free sample sets that I have some 100 gb worth of and half from other sources.

My mixing software is called Cool Edit Pro which is pretty old, like 12 years old. It's currently marketed as Adobe Audition but I do all right with the old creaky thing I love.
