I'm holding off until I've listened to all of it, ran out of time this morning, still haven't heard the last two tracks on ALOTOCB. I listened to DDMA first on the way in as it's been many years since I last heard it, time hasn't changed my opinion much, it's not one of my favourites, there's good tracks but there's too many that just don't do it for me (Although RSVP seems to have a lot more weight to it than what I remember of it), I'd forgotten how good Everything's Cool was though (and I'd forgotten it had lyrics, for some reason I thought it was mostly instrumental, was there a mix on the single that only had the chorus or something?).
I will say on first listen of the first ten tracks, only Point Break:Zero Return didn't grab me immediately (the beat's a bit too quick, it falls over itself a bit), given the advanced descriptions and my lukewarm feelings towards DDMA and the Friends cover I wasn't expecting to like this (I really don't listen to anything remotely "industrial" these days) but the rest of them are so much stronger than I ever hoped possible, it's much better than DDMA and so far ahead of NNDBAS it's almost embarrassing. I understand some of the criticism of the vocal effects but for the most part it's fine, I've always loved Clint's voice though and lyrically this is as good as anything that's gone before, mostly (the T+A=$ vocal has the feel of a place-holding demo, rather than the completed vocal, it's fun though, I laughed at any rate).
And some of those riffs are just monstrous!
This would have been killer if it had seen the light of day, I'm afraid to admit I shed a tear in the car this morning at the thought of what might have been (tricky at 85 on the M5...), if it wasn't so pathetically melodramatic I'd say it was a tragedy this was never released. I'm glad it's here, finally, it's like a letter from a long lost friend that you thought wasn't talking to you any more but there's a sadness attached to it as now I know that's the last I'll hear of them, the last link from my youth has finally petered out, these last couple of years with the Cherry Red reissues has been utterly joyous, couple that with Adam's eBay descriptions and it's been a Pop-tastic few years. But it's all over now, all done.
So what the fuck am I supposed to do now?
EDIT: Uh, yeah, that's me, holding off... whoops...
