Sorry, never made it to the Old Market Tavern.
Gig was very enjoyable last night but this band wasnt Pop Will Eat Itself, sorry. It was Graham with a bunch of highly competent musicians, and the bloke whom I saw some years ago with apollo 400. Granted, Mary had tonnes of energy on stage (like Graham), but lets be honest here, who would you rather see?, him or Clint (with distict gruff vocal). Other little silly things that made a poppies show so enjoyable are no more, Adam and his daft keyboard standing + wrong notes, instrument swapping, no keyboards on stage but plenty of keyboard backing tracks, richard and his general lack of smiling for the most part, even the Wolves logo on the speaker etc. Jason is a brilliant drummer but Id rather be mesmerised by Fuzz. This was a great show in a great venue and am glad I went, but nothing comparible to when Id see the poppies in the early 90's, because quite simply this is a different group using the Pop will Eat Itself name for the purpose of notoriety. Vileevils were a lot more PWEI than this new reincarntion. Expect some good music and a good night out, but dont expect anything close to the poppies in their heyday.
Lots of great poppies shirts on show last night, I was the baldie with 'fuck em and their law' at the back of my shirt
end of rant.....
