Are you using real bass or vst?

Maybe I can suggest a piece of software or a patch/preset to use.

I'm trying to get a really warm, round fat and heavy-ish dub bass sound - i've tried everything - vst bass guitar thru bass amp vsts, compression, transient shapers ect...and tried also synth bass sounds too as it doesn't have to be a bass guitar sound...

either nothing cuts though or it overpowers. its a bit of a delicate mix. I've hacked out the bottom end from the other tracks and also the send effects so it's not a case of bottom end clutter. Rather I have a bit space to fill and can't get it right. It's worth pointing out that bottom end is my weak spot. I've never been able to easily get that right.

I currently have 2 bass sounds working together and I'm testing the mix on 5 x sets of speakers...grrr.

I might have to give up and get help soon as it's going nowhere fast now! And I still have Wise Up! Sucker to kick in to shape...that's sounding ok so far though.

Any tips are welcome here!

BTW - even though the rest of the track is locked down - I've found a new sample I want to use...I was watching Nic Roegs Track 29 last night and there is a Dangermouse cartoon on the TV in the background...anyone seen this film and also know which Dangermouse Ep it is? I want to grab a bit of the dialog but there is other noise over it.

Is there a particular sound you can refer me to? Like on a record?

Love to help if I can, but I'm MUCH better hearing a reference than reading one.

One VST plugin I can think of, is the Raggaeton Bass plugin.
Very good for dialing in some basic sub-bass frequencies.

161 episodes of Danger Mouse to trawl through!! ouch! what is the sample / quote? I'm assuming there are some mental fans on the internets who have typed out the scripts for every episode and a google search may pull it up?! How did the op go btw?

I love google - quick read of the episodes on wiki - go for the most likely sounding ep - go to you tube - find the ep - grab the audio.

Done.

I was the intro to 'Demons Aren't Dull' Ep 1 BTW!

Will check out that bass plug in now!

Cheers.

Well I'm aware time is ticking quick but vocals have been completed and music started on Harry Dean Stanton cover - Need to put some real time into it now which shouldn't be hard as I was made redundant last week after 13 years so you know...every cloud and everything :D

Fingers crossed it all comes together in time

I can't afford to buy a new mic right now, and my singing is beyond rubbish. I may have to turn in two versions: one without vocals, just samples, and one I ruin by opening my pie-hole and screeching into the laptop's mic.
