Werent Einstürzende Neubauten the first culprits? Or Throbbing Gristle? Proper avant garde stuff until Marilyn Manson and NIN glossed it up and sold it to The Kids?

Im not a fan.

But as was said earlier, it doesnt matter what its called, and it probably means different things to different people, I just never considered PWEI proponents of it. ALOTOCB sounds like the natural progression to DDMA, based on Ohms reports so Im really looking forward to it.

I've got an "Industrial" (it says 'ere) compilation album called Hot Wired Monstertrux, which was my main (only) introduction to the genre. I like most of the tracks on there, although the few albums that I bought of the back of it I really didn't get very far with. I think they cherry picked the best they could find, including some apparently very obscure remixes, some of which are the best versions of the track I've ever heard (The "Brain Forest Mix - The Orb Style" version of Young Gods Skinflower is MUCH better than the album version for example). I still have the album on my phone in fact (this is where I know NIN's Wish from, it's the opening track, I wouldn't know it from anywhere else). It does include some interesting artists to be included under the "Industrial" tag, Consolidated for example (Tool and Die, very good). I couldn't really tell you that they all have anything in common.
