Ned’s Atomic Dustbin – Nothing Is Cool 2012
Wolverhampton Civic Hall: Saturday 1st December 2012
On 1st December 2012 ‘Nothing Is Cool’ will finally find its way on to DVD and into the hands of the faithful, but not without a little pomp to welcome it into the world!
All five original members of Ned’s Atomic Dustbin will take to the stage on which the lion’s share of live footage on their hit video was shot to play the songs that featured on ‘Nothing Is Cool’ in track list order followed by the rest of their hits, at their favourite venue Wolverhampton Civic Hall, The film will then be shown in its entirety post-gig.
Almost 25 years ago five spotty teenagers were stood in a converted meat store in Stourbridge trying to decide which of their four bass players would volunteer to play drums or six strings.
Four years later Ned’s Atomic Dustbin had topped the Indie singles chart and cracked the top 20 single and top 5 album charts building a vast horde of rabidly loyal followers, while the whole time recording their ascent on super 8.
The result of months of on-the-road, studio, dressing room, on-stage, off-stage, sightseeing, rehearsal room, tour bus, sound-check, fan shenanigan footage was a long-form video called ‘Nothing Is Cool’.
Released at the very height of their powers, ‘Nothing Is Cool’ toppled the mighty Eurythmics from the top of the video charts and instantly furnished a generation of indie kids with that essential snapshot of their young lives spent with their equally young favourite band – Ned’s Atomic Dustbin.
It is about now that those VHS tapes are beginning to show the signs of wear and tear and cold storage – a time when 30 and 40-something indie kids want to show their own kids how they spent their teens…
This promises to be a real-life 90s indie-party - very special guests announcing soon.
Original line-up includes… Dan Dan the fast drumming man, Mat plays one bass, Alex the other, Rat does the guitar and Jonn just sings.
So, why two bass players? Surely that’s not cool… true but Nothing Is Cool!
