Yes head space is a real knack. I assume your using limiters and compression on other tracks? I've actually got my head around compression a little more on this project and have a track that is not clipping...without cheating and dropping the master output. That's a first for me.

The right kind of Compresion and limiting on the vocal and carving out the frequencies you don't need might give you a 'boost' without clipping it?

I don’t want to state the obvious but try stepping back from the mic. :D I wouldn’t worry too much about clipping. It happens. As long as the sound is not distorted you will be fine.
Cool Edit Pro is my software of choice, it has both options of compression and nomilazation, as well as amplify which strange as it sounds allows you to decreases db’s. Cool Edit comes fully loaded.

I would worry about clippping...it is avoidable. Just group everyrhing bar the vocals, drop everthing down, get the vocal level and bring everything up and then adjust? Vocal head room is a bugger. Probably some good advice on the CM / Future Music sited / forums?

Being ruthless with your eq can fee up 'space' and reduce noise - carve out all un wanted frequencies from every track, hi9gh pass filters on effects can also free up frequencies...ect...the less clutter you have in the frequenices, the more room you have in the sonic spectrum.

So say cutting out the frequency range your vocals occupy from other tracks that can still cut through without thouse frequencies present will give you more room for the vocal.

Or something.

The everythings Cool cover is actually by a 'proper' band. They have a few LP's you can buy one of which includes Everythings Cool. So that's not going on here. Citizen Radio was well below par IMO. Who ever did it has not been in touch so I'm not chasing for it to be submitted. I'm sure we will have some great stuff coming this way very soon and enough for a great compilation.

The "music" of Pretty Pretty is pretty much locked. I hope to have the vocals soon, but have lost access to the studio and have no equipment at the moment. Not even a mic. I'm trying different things with my shitty eMachines laptop mic, and have been, for the most part, discouraged. I am still trying. If all else fails, I'll send you a link to the track sans vocals, but with fun samples. You can decide if it's worthy of inclusion.

Hi,

Don't worry...get it done proper. When I get what I have by end of the month together I still have to put some art together and sequence the tracks nicely. I'm sure some other peeps will need a few more weeks?

I have a bit of stuff to do to one track but it's almost there. Then I will try at least one more too.

No point in having a drop dead deadline if it means worthy submissions can't make it. If your on with something it's well worth waiting for.

I was planning to collate everything and do the artwork over Feb and pop up the finished compilation links end of Feb.

I have once again scoured YouTube to find out who put together the acoustic cover of Urban Futuristic (tagged as being by 'Lets Get Lo- Fi MotherF*cker' on the MP3 i found in my archives) with no success. Anyone at all remember who did this so I can get in touch?

I'm still working on Aushlander but it's slow progress. I've got the basic track laid out with most of the keys and drums in place. Bass is 90% completed and guitar is about 20% done (problems of Line6 modelling guitar and an infinite sound range due to VST amps and pedals). No vocals yet and missing some vital 'Aaaahs'. This may get finished within a few weeks....

Great news! Looking forwards to hearing that.

I'm sick of hearing my version of Intergalactic Love Mission...which can mean only one thing...It's nearly done. My really old PC is near breaking point running it in Cubase too! It's a bit long it's 6 mins long...I need to trim some fat.
