I too switched teams in my time. My family were all Spurs, but I gravitated around the age of ten to Man U, mostly because of Bryan Robson, who was national captain at the time (and wore New Balance boots, which my folks could just about afford), but also because I looked a bit like Jesper Olson with my big blonde basin mullet. Then I kinda tuned out of football in teenage years and found myself getting back into Spurs in the mid 90s, my early 20s.
To this day most of my mates refuse to discuss football with me as punishment. And all the while I followed Gillingham, which were my local team growing up. So football has been a fairly grim lifetime trip for me. Fortunately the cricket lends itself much more to my lifestyle (ie sitting on a sofa having a cheeky smoke and not paying enough attention).
