Looking on the internet the new PWEI album appears to have charted in the UK at, um, 187. Doesnt appear like a mighty achievement but after doing some digging that seems to be higher than both The Wonder Stuffs 'Suspended By Stars' and The Missions 'God Is A Bullet', neither of which appear to have made it into the Top 200.
Unless anybody has better info then I reckon thats a fair result.

Guess that is just from downloads & the Amazons etc. From evidence of mersh stall at Oxford gig a lot of copies were shifted on the tour too. Could be enough sales to lift them into the high 150s

Would sales from merch stalls at gigs count, though?

I'm sick and tired of finding all the crummy reviews of New Noise out on the web. Every one of them I've read is written by a rather uninformed turd that does nothing more than refrain that it isn't the same PWEI anymore and that they expected to hear the familiar sound of This is This or Dos Dedos. The other common gripe is that the lyrics aren't meaningful or inspiring. Who cares, when have the poppies ever been deep and insightful musical philosophers? Their lyrics are peppy and they rhyme. The hooks are catchy, it's got a funky beat and I can bug out to it.
The only intelligent comment from a reviewer I read was that the album sounded a little overproduced. I agree, but I know what they are hearing: Crabbi should have given the tracks to somebody else to engineer - he's spent too many years listening to the same songs over and over and had too much time to nitpick them to death. I did the same thing with my first two albums and they have the exact same issue.
The most obvious problem I can find with the reviews (other than MUSIC REVIEWS ARE THE MOST WORTHLESS THING EVER) is that these folks have obviously only listened to the album 1 or 2 times and not without trying to find something to pick at.
I am trying to post positive reviews wherever I find a bad one to prevent people from dismissing the new album out of turn.
The craziest thing is the post on Twitter from Graham that says they got booed off stage when opening for Public Enemy (I could have that fact mixed up because it's been over a week since I read it and I can't find it right now).

PWEI are not a 'critics band'. Their approach is too wide-eyed, and you'll notice that one-dimensional music is generally more acclaimed than music that aims for many genres. Proof? Death Metal.
Negative reviews don't surprise me though. Everyone decided Rap-Rock was unoriginal before the Beatles formed. I think PWEI are still ahead of their time. Most bands won't dare mix Rap with Rock with Electronica, they're afraid to just mix two.
Also lol @ 'meaningful lyrics'. New Noise is actually more series than TiT and Box Frenzy, especially with "Disguise" and "Nosebleeder Turbo TV".

lol @ meaningful lyrics what sewer did that critic crawl out of? I can't remember hearing a single song in the past ten years that had meaningful lyrics!
I agree. Who wants positive reviews, these critics are clueless for one, their job is just to give their fucking opinion & get their cheque, they're failed musicians at the end of the day that never made it so they sucked their way to a bitch ass music critic shtick. All I know is pwei sound like no other band & they have made a difference in the music world they were never irrelevant like wigfield, gina g, liberty, & all of these stupid no name bands that fell of the map.
pwei may not be everyone's cup of tea, you certainly have to be open minded and give them a chance. I remember all the ppl I tried to get them into pwei & them bitches would turn it off in the first 10 seconds. Hoes... What ever happened to what George Michael said listen without prejudice BIATCH!!!
To be perfectably honest the reason why this new album sounds different to the old shit, is obvious. There's only one founding member for starters. Also you are going to change your style after the first pwei album in a decade!
For what it is, it falls short for me personally. The pwei variety of songs is missing here, all the tracks sound similar.
I just think there is so much pressure to create an album that's on par with the old stuff. I would give it average review.
It is good for die hard fans, but in terms of new audiences I think ppl today want more dance music & heavy bass.
