Like a ten ton truck - Radio PWEI additional vocal/sample

Postby 1000x No! » Sat Mar 05, 2016 1:32 am

I was listening a bit too closely to Radio PWEI this week, and noticed that there's an additional vocalist on the two lines bolded below:

Like a ten ton truck
Don't give a fuck
And if you don't like The Poppies
It's your hard luck

It's not Clint or Graham - it sounds like some American rapper or something. Is it a sample? Or is it an additional guest vocalist?

Also, while on the subject of Radio PWEI, I've always romanticised that the echoey female voice saying P... W... E... I... was Carol Vorderman sampled from the letters game in Countdown. Would be an obvious/easy source at the time.

Thoughts?

BTW, just writing down the subject for this thread made me click that the 'ten ton truck' is possibly a Smiths reference.

It might have been DJ Winston but to be honest I always presumed it was one of the lads adopting an accent.

defo samples but no idea where from.

I used to be convinced the steel drums on Poison to the Mind came from an old Tetley Tea advert.

I'm 99% convinced she's American, so it isn't Carol, but I am prepared to be corrected by someone more ITK

I always thought those additional lines were just samples.

I listened to the demo version of Radio P.W.E.I (on CD2 of the remastered TITD) for the first time today, and you can hear that 'Ten Ton Truck' sample really clearly. It's deffo a sample not an additional vocal.

Open Spotify and click this link for a listen:
http://open.spotify.com/track/0rAnVSp8S7rK99zY4XC10G

The samples are at 0.37 and 0.39.

Who is it?????!

You win Winalot!

Google has just returned one single solitary result, it is Schooly D - We Get Ill.

Not sure on the Iron Maiden sample, It sounds similar, but in the Iron Maiden version there's always some dreadful lead guitar work over the riff, which the Poppies' sample doesn't have.
