The bedroom demos, well, they are what they are. I probably will only dig them out every couple of years for listen as curios. Funny how today many bedroom recordings can match a studio recording!

I don't understand why the George Shilling and On-U Sound mixes of Get the Girl favor dropping the actual eastern sounding hook and replace it with some primitive ringtone version.

Glad to have a decent non-vinyl rip for Dread Alert and Eat Me Dub Mix.

Despite the liner notes misgivings of the album, I always loved it. It's the "wild" PWEI album, between manic drums and the Buzzard and the claims it's the poppiest album while managing the most swearing, sometimes in the chorus of the singles!

After hearing the demos it dawned on me that maybe TLOTL is mostly missing Rich and Ad's non songwriter driven contributions. It's very much a case of whoever wrote the song having pretty much their original concept just re-played by the other four, quite often with the same original demo samples too. Or something. But least favourite PWEI album is still always gonna be a good record, eh.

It is, more clearly than ever before, the work of two songwriters in very different places.

Some of Clint's most serious work - Token Drug Song, Harry Dean Stanton, Eat Me Drink Me and I've Always Been A Coward vs some of Graham's silliest; Pretty Pretty, Teenage Grandad, Mother & Bulletproof! sits quite oddly for me.

I know that in many respects that was always the classic PWEI menu, but before TLOTL, it seemed to work better. With specific reference to Graham's stuff, I've noticed that the tunes themselves are quite varied, within themselves, jumping from style to style, whereas Clint's were much more linear, which works to their benefit, I think.

The demos emphasise that without lyrics, some of these tunes would be much, much better.

All that said, I still love Urban Futuristic, Get the Girl & Karmadrome despite themselves.

It's a birrova schizo album really; Clint getting all serious, whilst wearing a red & white stripey dress with a dreadlock pineapple on his head..
